Some Important Points to Note:
- Know your chimney size – It’s an important factor, which makes the placement of chimneys an important factor. If it’s a big one, even when displaced, the smoke will still be sucked out through the hob, but in case of smaller one and matches the hob’s size, it is to be placed right above the same, i.e., center.
- Chimney and Gas stove distance – It should be between 26”-30”. If it’s below the minimum level, the settling oil in collectors of the Chimney will be increasing the chance to catch fire. The distance of the Chimney from the hob is parallel to efficiency.
- Chimney Duct – The duct (stainless steel or aluminum) it should never be >12 feet, and neither should it have more bends (it makes smoke for reaching exhaust difficult). Remember, there are most of Chimney types which come with PVC, that melts when excess heat gets supplied during suction.
- The right cut for Chimney duct- For duct, the wideness (6-inches) with an opening (circular) is to be made. The cut-out is to be made in the kitchen’s external wall, at a 7-feet-height. However, it is always better to choose a ductless chimney if one lives in apartments or the rented house.
Installation of a Kitchen Chimney:
Checking clearance: Before installation, one must ensure that the Chimney can take care of the cooking fumes, and therefore, a clearance is to be made 20-30 inches right above the cooking range.
Electric connection: Make sure to add up wires, if not enough, so that the kitchen chimney can be connected with ease. It is one of the crucial steps.
On-hood wiring: Follow the instructions manual, check out the wiring instructions. In almost all cases, flipping the kitchen chimney and removing the covering panel from the bottom helps find wiring.
Mounting of the kitchen chimney: It’s an important step during installation. Ductless and duct are the two hood types. One must even make sure that they have vents constructed if planning for a vented installation. It should directly lead to the exterior, instead of the attic.
Hood positioning: Mark the spot on the wall and ensure that Chimney’s precise placement can be made. Drive screws in the respective spits marked, and then the hood is to be placed therein. The screws should always be the one that is either provided along with the installation kit or model recommended. It will ensure stability and, in turn, ensure the hood functioning better.
Aligning vent: The vent should align with the kitchen Ductwork before the Chimney gets completely fixed, and the screws are mounted. Once checked, screws can be tightened.
Exhaust mode: The Chimney is usable in two modes- Exhaust and Recirculation. For the best outcome, exhaust mode is recommended as it has the potential for driving extra air (exhausting) out of the kitchen, once the Chimney is connected to the duct through a spigot (a part of the hood).
Wiring: It’s the last step and an important one. There are black and white wires. Opening the Chimney, one will find the fan and the light connection too have the same colored wiring. The fan is important to be connected; for the light, it depends on us.
There is a green wire or earthing wire too, which helps prevent short circuits. It is to be attached to the grounding screw, and the white wire (main wire for electrical connection) is to be attached to the bulb and fan and with black wires. Installing a Chimney might seem difficult, but if one sticks to the manual, they will succeed.
